Harlingen Art Night brings various 2D and 3D artists. Thousands of eventgoers' eyes see paintings, stickers, and ceramics. There’s a trend of ceramic artists setting up tables there.
One of these 3D artists is Sherre Adams, an art instructor and a familiar face at Harlingen Art Night. Her work expands beyond Harlingen, “The Capital of the Rio Grande Valley.” Adams’ “A Journey Through a Wandering Mind” is now on display at The Weslaco Museum until August 24.
The mind viewers see belongs to Adams, reflecting her career and process.
Adams is instilling her skills into hundreds of people through hosting small activities at markets or her Summer Clay Club. The club ran from July 8 to 19 at the McAllen Creative Incubator. It featured three days of clay making and glazing, costing $150 per child. The idea came from her tenure at the South Padre Island Art Space that had a similar program. Adams felt pushed to create her club after seeing an unfortunate decline in these opportunities for younger folk.
Thanks to the love for her work within the 956, Adams has operated Y.O.U Your Own Unique Design since 2018. It carved a space for her to connect with customers via commissions. Recently, her hard work has paid off with the move of her studio to the McAllen Creative Incubator. Adams added she’s incorporating a vendor wall to help support some of her favorite small businesses, which has three vendors as of publishing.
Her efforts as a Harlingen creative haven’t gone unnoticed. The organizers of Harlingen Art Night honored Adams by naming her as Featured Artist for March 2023 and raffling one of her pieces. The feature also showed her artist bio, giving a glimpse of her artistic journey. She noted she’s been doing art all her life and started her professional career in 2017.
“I’m doing this for you guys,” Adams said.
