UPDATE: Spec’s opened on March 5, 2022.
The Luby's Cafeteria at 822 Dixieland Road in Harlingen closed on June 16, 2021. The buyer of the property, John McClure, plans to open a Spec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods in its place. Spec's serves the Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and DFW areas in Texas. They also own Feldman's Liquor & Wines. The site plan of the property will not change, but the floor plan will be remodeled.
Per the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the renovations are scheduled to begin in October 2021.
(The other Luby's Cafeteria in Harlingen at 2506 S. 77 Sunshine Strip remains open at this time.)
