One of my friends who I have had for 30+ years and his wife were visiting Harlingen from Dubai (he and I attended Harlingen High School in the '80s). They wanted to meet for lunch. Although I hadn't been there before, I had a feeling they were going to like Main Street Boutique & Bistro in San Benito. I had seen other friends on Facebook post about their weekend brunch so I decided to give them a try for our weekday lunch.
His wife wanted to eat somewhere healthy, already tired of the filling Tex-Mex spots they had eaten at prior to our lunch date. Main Street's menu consists of sandwiches, salads, and desserts. They also have a rotating weekly lunch special (this week's was flatbread pizza). My friend, my daughter, and myself all had the flatbread pizza in different varieties (Meateater, Combination, and cheese, respectively) with different sides (tomato basil soup, pasta salad, and chips, respectively). My friend's wife ordered the Salad Sampler, which came with a scoop of chicken salad, pasta salad, and spring mix salad.
The drink menu was unique with plenty of refreshing choices. My friends ordered the Lavender Lemonade while I enjoyed the Raspberry-Hibiscus tea. We all had refills.
We had to order desserts because they all looked so amazing! My friends split the Bread Pudd'n (presented like a giant muffin, with a tiny cup of caramel to pour on top, wow!); my daughter had the decadent Chocolate Sweetie cake; and I took a chance on the Potato Chip cookies. (Yes, they are actually made from potato chips! And were pretty good!) Other desserts include the Pink Champagne cake, Pineapple Cream cake, Vanilla Nilla cake, Bistro Bourbon cookies, and S'more brownies.
As its name suggests, there are also items for sale in the restaurant such as fanciful artwork, men's and women's clothing, handbags, sunglasses, and jewelry. Main Street is a family-owned hidden gem in San Benito, and I am glad I was able to impress my guests by taking them there!
