For Lady Hawk Jiselle Montemayor, excelling at basketball has always come naturally.

Jiselle picked up a basketball at a very young age and fell in love with the game. Over the years, she has honed her basketball skills along with her IQ and has displayed the keen ability to put the basketball in the hoop.

At every level, Jiselle was a notable and elite player routinely leading her team in scoring, as well as a leader in several statistical categories.

Her prominence on the hardwood has carried over to Harlingen South. As a member of the Lady Hawk basketball program, Jiselle quickly became a pivotal member of the varsity team as a freshman. She continued to show her prowess as a prolific basketball scorer and has received several accolades.

As a freshman, Jiselle was named the District’s Offensive MVP & Newcomer of the Year, Area 2nd Team, selected for two All-Star teams, All-Academic Team, ranked #14 in steals in the state of Texas among all 5A basketball players with more than 400 points scored.

Her sophomore year, Jiselle was named the District’s Defensive MVP, Area 1st Team selection, selected for two All-Star teams, All-Academic Team, ranked #13 in steals in the state of Texas and scored more than 460 points.

To date as a junior, Jiselle has already scored more than 200 points in only 15 games this season reaching the “1,000 Points” scored milestone on November 27, 2024, which is truly remarkable considering that Jiselle has 1½ seasons or about 45 games left in her illustrious Lady Hawk basketball career.

At her current pace, it’s possible for Jiselle to become one of the greatest Lady Hawk players in program history. From an offensive perspective, she is within reach of the great Bianca Torre, who holds the record for most points scored throughout her Harlingen South high school career.

So, what’s next for Jiselle Montemayor? A college basketball scholarship? An NCAA national championship? Being drafted by the WNBA? Playing basketball professionally? It appears that the “Sky’s The Limit” for this amazing Lady Hawk.

Take advantage of her remaining time at South and come out and catch a game to watch this Hawk soar because she is clearly “A Step Above.”
